Well, I did a birthday post when I turned 36 and another one with a Birthday Duckface Unicorn picture when I turned 37, because I’m so mature. I guess I’d better keep the tradition going with a post for this year’s birthday.
I turned 38 on Saturday, but I’ve been practicing saying “I’m 38” for like a month now. It still feels a little odd, but I’m also surprisingly okay with it. I feel like this year is going to be a really good year. I’ve been working really hard towards my goal of running the Team Relay Marathon and now it’s only about a month away. I’ve also finally decided to move forward with my tattoo plans once the race is over, because if not now…when?
I didn’t have time to take a birthday picture on Saturday, so I’m going to use this one from Monday. Hopefully I didn’t get noticeably more wrinkly in 5 days…
Unlike last year, I do feel like I’ve finally become a grown up. But maybe it’s just because I’m exhausted. My husband’s job has been really difficult for the last couple months because he’s been working from very early to quite late each day. This means that on top of my full-time job and this blog, I also take care of most everything in the household and all of Jack’s needs. Jack has also started dragging his heels with bedtime every night, which means that by time he finally gives up I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck and crawl my broken body into bed at 9:00 (only to be woken up 45 minutes later because Jack wants his water refreshed…).
I very rarely take time for myself, and I see now that is something I need to do more in my 38th year. I’ve gotten into the habit of going for a weekend run, which is quite nice. However, I’d also really like to start making time to see friends more often and also spend more one-on-one time with my husband. I have no idea where this extra time is going to come from.
Over the weekend we actually hired a babysitter to stay with Jack and went to the Maryland Wine Festival with some of my favorite people. I really couldn’t have asked for a better day – the weather was beautiful, the company hilarious and the food and wine delicious. So yeah, I need to do more of that this year.
So yeah, I need to do more of that this year.
Let me tell ya, 38 looks good on you, my friend! I think feeling like an adult is strange and I go between, “I’m 30-something!” and, “I’m 30-something? When did that happen?” all the time. I’m all for making more time to get together this year, and the rest of the years 🙂
Thank you Jessy! xoxo
