November Thrift Haul

After an awesome October Thrift Haul, it seems that the thrift scales have been balanced with this month. That’s right, I have ZERO thrift finds for the month of November. However, I do have a few fabulous secondhand scores from Poshmark over the last few months that I will share for this month’s Haul.

Garnet Hill Linen & Cotton Sweater with hood, $19

I have recently become somewhat obsessed with Garnet Hill and love, love, love their cotton and linen sweaters. However, they run from $100 – $160 so I’d really like to not pay full price! I’ve been stalking a bunch of them on Poshmark and when the Posher sent me a deal of just $19 for this linen and cotton hoodie, I scooped it up. It is exactly what I was hoping for – really soft, oversized and a great, chunky knit that isn’t itchy. I’ve been wearing this regularly with joggers on telework days (it looks fancy on camera for Teams calls), and with jeans when going out and about.

Garnet Hill Linen & Cotton Sweater, $25

Which leads us to this sweater. I was also stalking this one, as it is an oversized pullover style with the same kind of chunky linen and cotton knit. I was sent an offer for $25, so I went ahead and treated myself. I just got this one in the mail and haven’t even worn it yet.

Madewell The Regan Black Booties, $40

I thrifted a green suede version of these booties and have recently started wearing them. They are so comfortable and go well with jeans, dresses and skirts, so I decided to search out a black pair. I found these never worn on Poshmark for just $40 and I think they will be perfect for days that I go into the office.

L.L. Bean Vintage Corduroy Skirt, $16

Source: Poshmark Listing

I’ve had a vintage corduroy skirt on my thrift list for months and months. When I found one I loved, it would inevitably not be my size… especially because vintage sizing is so wonky. I went up three sizes for this one, figuring that I can always tailor it to my body. As it turns out, the waist actually fits well – so be sure to ignore sizing when it comes to vintage and go by your waist measurements instead. This is currently sitting in my sewing pile so I can hem it to knee length. I can’t wait to pair it with a graphic t-shirt, chunky cardigan and my cowboy boots!

Rothy’s Sneakers, $17

Jack’s Rothy’s were getting tight, so I started the hunt for the next size. The kid has been growing so quickly that I don’t bother with half sizes… so he went from a women’s 7 to a women’s 8 in the slip on sneakers. Which means that very, very soon he will be fitting in mine… These have been barely worn and were just $17!

My 2024 Black Friday Shopping Watch List

While I’ve never been one of those wake-up-early-and-camp-outside-a-store people for Black Friday, I am quite the internet deal finder. So, each year I make myself a little ‘watch list’ for items that I want to purchase utilizing those Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals.

This year I just have two items on my list – and they are both on Jack’s Christmas wish list:

Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet – Amazon link here

I love my Fire HD 10 Tablet and it is super convenient to use for Kindle reading and Netflix watching. Jack has recently started asking for a tablet of his own (he used to have a kid’s Kindle), so I have been looking into tablet options. Once we narrowed down that he wanted to do with it – mainly play Minecraft, play other app based games, and use drawing/art/animation apps – it seems like a Fire HD 10 will work for him too. Right now, they cost $139.99 but I’m crossing my fingers that they go on sale for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday holiday. If I get a good deal on the tablet, I’ll also be looking for a case as well.

NEX Playground Game System Amazon Link Here

I had Jack look around Target’s toys and electronics section on a recent trip to get some ideas for his Christmas list. They had a NEX Playground set up to try and he absolutely loved it. It is an AI-powered motion tracking video game console. You hook it up to your television and it comes with 5 interactive games to play. A separate purchase of a Quarterly pass ($49) or Annual pass ($89) is required to access the full catalog of 20+ games and they release new games on the pass each month. The NEX system costs $199 and doesn’t look like it goes on sale often, so I’m crossing my fingers for a little price break around Thanksgiving. As for the quarterly/annual pass, we will be adding that to Jack’s Amazon wish list for family members (along with Fortnight gift cards and Amazon gift cards).

Are you planning to do any online Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopping?

Office Thoughts & Sideboards: The Reveal!

Last month, I shared with you in Office Thoughts & Sideboards that I was looking for a perfectly sized sideboard/credenza piece that would look much nicer than the cube system I was using, and serve to increase my storage space in my office.

As a reminder, here is my before:

I ended up purchasing the Badel 58” Sideboard from Wayfair for $319.

Source: Wayfair.com

The reason I went with this particular option:

  • I loved the look of it and it was actual wood.
  • It had a mix of shelves and drawers, which seemed best for my hodge-podge of stuff.
  • The price was right.

I placed my order, received free shipping (yay!) and it arrived a few days later. I’m actually one of those people who enjoy putting furniture together and have done it many, many times. This piece went together very well, the wood is a really good weight, and the finishes are fantastic. I’m talking nice, heavy metal for the knobs and drawer pulls, and a very thick backing board for the inside of the cabinets.

Once I had it together, the “fun” began. Where I basically had to reorganize my entire office because everything looked terrible next to my new, fancy sideboard. I also did a huge closet clean-out, so that I could better organize everything by utilizing the sideboard space. I ended up with 3 bags of donations for Goodwill and 2 bags of trash.

And here’s the great reveal:

I love, love, love how the new furniture fits the space!

Here is a close-up of the corner:

I moved my walking pad so that it fit into the space next to the sideboard, and stole my bookshelf from the other side of the room for my workout stuff storage. I had been using a standing desk with my walking pad, but wasn’t fully loving it. This bookshelf is a great height for me to balance my kindle on it for reading or watching Netflix while I walk.

The collapsible table on the wall folds down when not in use, but when I need to sew something I just roll the walking pad out of the way, lock the table into position, grab my folding chair from the closet and sew away!

Here is a closer look at the sideboard:

You are not going to BELIEVE how much stuff I fit inside:

Here is a look at the right cabinet: there is a ton of random crafting supplies, my cross-stitch supplies, jewelry making supplies, painting supplies and small canvases, a tie-dye kit, some larger canvases, a bag of Acrylic markers, some RIT dye and an unused craft set.

As for the left cabinet: I have an assortment of electronics and chargers, a bunch of half-used notebooks from Jack that I grab when I need scratch paper, camera equipment, assorted fabric and scraps from sewing projects, a bowl and wax I use for making candles, and an empty box giving me room to grow.

The three middle drawers currently hold all my gift wrap stuff:

Right now, I have a drawer full of cards, ribbon, bows, labels and gift boxes; one with assorted gift bags; and one with boxes and tissue paper. I’m hoping that I can get through a bunch of this stuff this holiday season, so that I can combine them and have one drawer option for other stuff. To keep all my gift wrapping stuff together, I hid my 4 rolls of wrapping paper under the sideboard, out of sight.

I am so, so, so pleased how the addition of this piece of furniture has allowed me to organize my entire office. It just feels like there is so much clean space now. And even better, when I open my closet everything is accessible without having to play jenga to get to my filing cabinet!
