I had really hoped to have a blog post for you today talking all about how much fun I had celebrating my birthday over the weekend. And that is totally true, for part of the weekend.
On Saturday, my brother came over to hang out with Jack so that Travis and I could go to the Maryland Wine Festival. We drank, we ate, we lazed around… it was great!
Later that evening the four of us met up with my sisters and their boyfriends for a delicious dinner at Buca di Beppo. There were carbs, singing and a bowl of ice cream the size of my head! Yay, more great!
On Sunday morning, I went and got an HOUR long massage that left me all gooey and tingly. So MUCH GREAT!
When I got back from my massage appointment I noticed Jack felt a little hot. Cue the end of GREAT.
Yup, my little boy is a sickie. He’s had a cold for about a week and then a fever kicked in yesterday afternoon. We were up every couple hours last night because he felt terrible and was roughly the temperature of a roaring fire. He continuously asked for milk or ice water, but wouldn’t drink a drop. This morning, I had to take him to my parent’s house so I could work and I told my mom to use any means necessary to get more fluids into him.
I even said she could give him JUICE if he would drink it.
{gasp!}
Of course, he won’t. It’s been a high stakes game of negotiation to even get him to take a couple sips of water. This morning I promised I would take him to Target to pick out a toy garbage truck AND a motorcycle if he would just take his medicine.
Yup. It’s that kind of day.
Fast-forward to this afternoon… my mom called and Jack now has bumps on his hands and feet. Yup, good ol’ Hand, Foot and Mouth (HFM) disease again. He actually has pretty much EVERY symptom listed now, poor kid. I called the doctor’s office, and as I expected there isn’t anything to do other than wait it out.
At least the first part of the weekend was pretty darn great.
Oh Julie I’m sorry. That sucks, but I do think it’s going around. Several of my friends have kids with HFM. So sorry.
Apparently it is the peak time for it, August – October. BOO!
Poor little guy.
When I was a kid I got sore throats and Strep throat ALL THE TIME. It made swallowing painful. Which made me not want to drink despite being thirsty. My mom use to always make homemade popsicles with water and just a tiny bit of juice for flavor. You get the fluids and you get the soothing from the cold. Worth a shot?
I’m totally going to be stocking up on popsicles at the store. I’m thinking pudding pops, because he likes pudding and who DOESN’T like a pudding pop?!
OMG what are these pudding pop’s you speak of? Here one of the grocery store brands makes these awesome frozen yogurt pops….mmm.
You don’t remember pudding pops? Bill Cosby did the commercials and ALL the kids wanted them! I hope they are still around… =)
I remember Jello pudding commercials with the Cos but not actual pudding pops. May have been an American only thing. They like to deprive us Canadians of the fun stuff.
That is going around our school right now.
Say a prayer.
And you are so lucky to have 1- a mom that lives close and 2- a mom that takes a sick kid.
Give her a big hug.
I am SO lucky to have my mom nearby. It’s comforting to know that he’s getting the same care that I’d give him, even when I have to work. =)
Sorry to hear that! Buck got that when he was a baby and it was awful. AWFUL!
Oh nooooo! HFM popped up in my son’s school recently, and I more or less Purell him to pieces when he gets home. Fingers crossed that your little one feels better soon!
