My Style: August Favorite Outfits

Happy last day of August! We had some absolutely beautiful weather in Maryland this month and for the first time in a long time we didn’t have any 100+ degree days. I mean, it was hot… it just wasn’t HOLYHELL hot this year!

I took a look through my August style posts and found four of my favorites for you to check out. If you see something you like, I’ve made it easy for you to steal my style with links for each item, as well as some similar styles at different price points. If you want to check out previous My Style posts, you can find them here.

Look #1: My Super Honest Running Outfit

My Style August 1

The Tank Top
Waking up early to run sucks, there’s no pretending otherwise. However, having cute and snarky running clothes totally helps keep me motivated. This tank top is one of my favorites, because as I slowly trot by someone in the opposite direction I can watch them read the shirt and snicker a little. Here is the exact one I have, but I also own this one and really want to buy this Run Now, Wine Later one next!

The Capris
These are the capris that I got from my very first Wantable Fitness Edit (you can check it out here) and they are currently my favorite running pants. They fit great, don’t move around at all, and look cute as heck. They are also currently on sale on the Soybu website for $29.40. I also love the compression capris from Under Armour and found a pair of sassy pink neon capris currently on sale at Old Navy for $20!

The Sneakers
I love my Nike running shoes – mostly because they keep my feet, calves and back from hurting – but also a little because they are adorable. I can’t find my exact pair online (I bought them a few months ago), but this pair looks pretty similar. This pair has the added benefit of a subtle little pattern, so cute!

Look #2: Wrap Dress & Sweater Combo

My Style August 2

The Dress
As a curvy girl with a larger bust and hips/butt, wrap dresses are totally my friend. With a little tailoring so the girls don’t pop out and greet you, of course. {This post is a ‘must read’ for fixing your wrap dress} I bought this dress on sale from Loft years and years ago and it’s still going strong. This Adrianna Papell version from Nordstrom looks really similar, but if I were buying it today I’d totally go for this navy and white polka dotted version or this pretty ikat patterned style. If you’re looking for a wrap dress on a smaller budget, check out this one, it is only $39.97 and comes in sizes 4 – 14.

The Sweater
I scored my blue J.Crew sweater at ThredUp (you can read about My ThredUp Experience here) and when I last checked they have some similar options still available (if you want a free $20 to spend on your order, use my special promo link) If pre-owned clothing grosses you out, you can also go straight to the source and buy the J.Crew Factory Clare cardigan — there are a ton of colors available and it’s currently on sale for $29.50.

The Shoes
You’ve seen these shoes before in my My Style posts, because they are super comfortable and a great neural looking wedge. I bought these Franco Sarto’s at TJ Maxx a few years ago for around $20. The Cera wedge sandal from the same brand looks quite similar.

Look #3: Color blocking tops & Flowered Swing Skirt

My Style August 3

The Tops
I’m wearing the same blue sweater as the last picture, which proves that I basically throw a cardigan on with everything to keep warm at various air-conditioned offices. The shirt peeking out from underneath is the Chiffon Spliced Tee from Anthropologie. They’ve sold out of a lot of the colors, but there are still a few available on super sale. Since it’s hiding under a sweater anyways, you could totally just use a simple v-neck t-shirt from Target like this one  — it comes in a ton of colors and usually costs $9, but today it’s on sale for $6.75!

The Skirt
Color me surprised that I walked out of a Talbots try-on session with a skirt that I totally loved. This swing skirt is made out of a hearty linen/cotton/spandex blend and keeps it shape, even throughout a 12 hour workday. I can’t wait to style it for fall with some booties or knee-boots! Unfortunately, the skirt is no longer available on the Talbots website. I’m totally loving the pattern on this version from Modcloth and of course I have to include one that I’m drooling over from Anthropologie that is out of my price comfort-zone, The Sketched Plaid Skirt.

The Shoes
These sandals are from a few years ago by Kelly & Katie (a brand carried by DSW). As much as I wish I could find them again to buy a backup, they are long gone. I did find a couple pairs with a similar gladiator + wedge look though, these sandals in the “Honey Elisabeth Snake” are so pretty and I also like how kick-ass Ariat Oro gladiators on Amazon look.

Look #4: Chevron, Boyfriend Jeans & a Moto Jacket

My Style August 4

The Top
This top is the Pixley Edmond Chevron Print Henley Shirt from my May 2014 Stitch Fix. It has certainly gotten a lot of wear over the past year or so and is still as soft as the day I got it. I think Pixley must be a Stitch Fix brand, because I didn’t have any luck locating this shirt. I did find this chevron Henley from Lucky Brand that is pretty darn cute.

The Moto Jacket
This jacket (the Market & Spruce Elissa French Terry Moto Jacket) came from last week’s Fix and I’m so glad I decided to keep it. Initially I was concerned because I don’t really like it zipped up, but after wearing it a couple times I decided that I love it so much unzipped that I’ll get lots of wear out of it. Since it’s a Stitch Fix brand, I can’t find the exact jacket for you… but I actually found one with a very similar style from Express. So if you like the look, you can totally try that one for less than $80!

The Jeans
Oh how I love me some Kut from the Kloth! These jeans (also from last week’s fix) are called the Kate Distressed Boyfriend jean, but I’ve also seen them called the Catherine. These seem to be exactly the pair that I have and here is a version with a little less distressing.

The Shoes
I was super patient and stalked these Sam Edelman Ginger sandals for months before I finally found them on sale at Nordstrom Rack. This particular style is sold out everywhere, but I have seen a few pairs pop up on eBay if you are dying for them. We only have a few more weeks of sandal weather here in Maryland anyways, so I’m sure that the spring will see many more styles for us to lust after! If you can’t wait and must have a similar pair right this second, check out this pair called The Giselle.

My Style: July Favorite Outfits

Can you believe we are already at the end of July?! It seems like summer is just flying by this year. So, in the blink of an eye, it’s time for my monthly favorites post! If you see something you like, I’ve made it easy for you to steal my style with links for each item, as well as some similar styles at different price points. If you want to check out last month’s post, you can find it here.

Look #1: Printed Tank & Coral Jeans

July Look 1

The Printed Tank
I received this top – the Daniel Rainn Greta Geo Print Tank – in my July 2014 Stitch Fix and immediately loved the mix of the black eyelet and the print. The only thing I didn’t like was that the teensy tiny buttons kept slipping out of the button holes, so I took 5 minutes and sewed them up so I wouldn’t accidentally flash anyone!

Unfortunately, I can’t find this exact top anywhere since it’s a year old and my old faithful of Nordstrom Rack is looking a little bare in their Daniel Rainn tops. However, this similar styled tank top from Anthropologie is a little pricy, but so beautiful.  I also really like this Racerback Cami from Old Navy, which is much more reasonably priced.

The Jeans
These coral jeans were another Stitch Fix find (from my April 2015 Fix) and I’ve only recently pulled them out of my closet to wear them. They are awfully fitted, so I paired them with the flowy top to keep the outfit more in my comfort zone. I think these Mavi jeans may be the ones I have and they are currently on sale at Nordstrom. These NYDY jeans from Nordstrom are almost identical looking and cost less.

The Shoes
Here are my workhorse Sam Edelman sandals again… I got them a few years ago and they are still as comfortable and look as great as when I first put them on. Here’s a version that is a little more simple, but still awfully darn sassy.  I also finally pulled the trigger and bought these in silver, and wore them all over NYC when I was there earlier this month.

Look #2: Pink Dress

July Look 2

The Dress
I first saw this dress pinned on the Stitch Fix board and immediately I knew I wanted it. So, when I saw it turn up on a random search of the TJ Maxx website (did you KNOW they have a website?!) I immediately ordered it and crossed my fingers that it fit as well in reality as it did in my head. I never thought I could pull off a bright pink dress, but oh my gosh does this one make me feel amazing. It is also super comfortable and I’ve thrown in in the wash and let it hang dry. That’s a dress winner if I ever heard of one! Want to know the best part? It’s on the TJ Maxx website for $29 in sizes 4 – 14! You can find it here.

The Bracelets
You can’t see my shoes in this picture, but you can kind of see my fantastic collection of leather wrap bracelets. I bought my first one when I visited Austin last year and couldn’t resist buying a second one as a Mother’s Day gift for myself! The larger one is the Single Jigsaw Stingray bracelet in turquoise and the thinner one is similar to this Single T-Bar bracelet in sparkle leather.

Look #3: A Showstopper Skirt

July look 3

The Skirt
I hemmed and hawed about this fabulous striped skirt from Anthropologie and even asked my followers on Instagram and Facebook whether it was a keeper or not. It wasn’t that I didn’t love the skirt… I just never imagined myself pulling off a full circle skirt with a layer of crinoline. However, I’m so glad I kept it because it really can be totally dressed up or down.

I got my skirt on super sale during the Anthropologie Tag Sale where it was marked down from $128 to $56. Of course, at that price it sold out in an instant, but I found some other showstopper skirts at the tag sale that I also love: the Sun Palm skirt is so gorgeous and it’s ALSO on super sale from $168 down to $89.95. The Bellflower skirt is so beautiful and I can see this styled with a similar colored top for a pretty bridal shower or engagement party look. Someone please do this and send me pictures! This one was $148 and on sale for $79.95. For a more reasonably priced alternative, try this floral version from Modcloth.

The Tank & Cardigan
This tank top is another score from my Anthro Tag sale haul and comes in a ton of other colors too. It’s called the Double v-Swing Tank and I like it because there are two layers of fabric, which make the tank top a little dressier than your typical cheapo version. I’m actually tempted to buy it up in a couple more colors, but I’m doing a no-shopping-for-30-days challenge… so I’ll have to pass.

I wear this cardigan all the time, because the pretty green color goes with almost everything in my closet. It’s the the Jackie cardigan sweater in tropical forest from J.Crew.

The Shoes
I picked these black gladiator wedges up a year or two ago on a random T.J. Maxx trip and they are super comfortable to wear all day long. Mine are by Franco Sarto and I found two more pairs that look quite similar: the Cera wedge sandal and the Unveil wedge.

I’m trying out something new and trying one of those fancy shopping widgets that shows you images for all the items I’ve linked to. It’s kind of a pain in the butt to do… so let me know if you find it helpful! (Update: I removed the widget because it was causing issues).

My Style: Favorite June Outfits

For quite a few months I’ve been doing a ‘favorite outfits of the month’ collage over on my Instagram account. I like being able to look back at what worked (and what didn’t) each month so that I can see which clothing items are getting the most wear. I thought it would be fun to carry my monthly favorites over here on Pocketful of Joules!

If you see something you like, I’ve made it easy for you to steal my style with links for each item, as well as some similar styles at different price points.

Look #1: Floral Cotton Dress

June look 1

The Dress
I picked this dress up from the Gap outlet last time I was in Ocean City for just $25 with the intentions of using it for a cute swimsuit cover-up. It wasn’t until I got home that I tried styling it for work with a belt and sweater and decided that I loved it. Unfortunately since the dress was an outlet find, the exact one isn’t available. However, this Tropical panel maxi dress from the Gap has a very similar print and feel to it. I also love this elastic waist maxi dress from Nordstrom and it comes in a TON of different prints.

The Sweater
I’m pretty sure my cardigan is the Jackie cardigan sweater in tropical forest from J.Crew. There’s a reason that everyone swoons over J.Crew cardigans… it’s because they hold up so well and last practically forever. They also have frequent sales and outlet stores (also online) that you can hit up for some amazing deals.

The Shoes
I’m wearing the Kelly & Katie Tasha Wedge sandal from DSW from a few years ago. I bought two pairs of these sandals and already wore one pair to death because I loved them so much. When I went to buy a backup, they were gone. So sad! I found a couple sandals with a similar feel though. Check out the O’Neill Sonia Gladiator sandals for a super similar look. I also like these Circus by Sam Edelman sandals for a more subtle take on the gladiator trend.

Look #2: Fit & Flare Dress

June look 2

The Dress
I got this dress in my April Stitch Fix and it was pretty much love at first sight. It has all the ingredients that I love in a dress – a fun print, slight v-neck, fitted waist and a fluffy circle skirt! After looking all over the internet, I found this EXACT dress at Nordstrom! Stitch Fix calls it the Taylor Theodore dress, but Nordstrom calls it the Cotton Jacquard Fit & Flare Dress by Taylor Dresses. You can find it here and it’s currently on sale! If you decide to order the dress, I found it fits true to size. I’m typically a 12 and the 12 fits perfectly.

The Shoes
I’m wearing the same sandals as Look #1. What can I say… they’re super comfy and go with everything!

Look #3: Patterned Blouse & Circle Skirt

June look 3The Blouse
This top was another Stitch Fix score and I received almost a year ago in my July 2014 Fix. The back of the tank is a ‘split back’ which I don’t really like, but when I tuck it into a skirt you can’t tell. You can totally get a similar look with any loud patterned tank top and I really like this one from Daniel Rainn that mixes a fun pattern with a crochet top. I also am really crazy about this patterned Ombre top from Lucky Brand.

The Skirt
I was looking for a jersey circle skirt and I feel like I looked everywhere before finding this one on the ASOS website. It looks like they are out of a lot of sizes, so I’m crossing my fingers they re-stock. For an alternative, the Women’s Jersey Circle skirt at Old Navy looks very similar. The description says it’s knee-length, but looks kind of short – so I would try ordering your regular size AND your size in “tall” so you can pick the version that looks best on you. I’m thinking of ordering the ‘pink print’ for myself!

The Shoes
If I have a weakness for a sandal brand, it’s Sam Edelman. I picked up these spiked sandals a couple years ago and every time I wear them I kind of feel like a bad ass. Even if it’s with a circle skirt and tank top. The Dion Studded Sandal has a higher heel, but a similar studded look. The Ginger sandal is a little more expensive, but every time I see them I drool a little.

Look #4: Casual Beachy Breakfast Look

June Look 4

The Shirt
This shirt is one of my absolute favorites and every time I wear it out someone wants me to tell them where I got it. So then, I get to kind of whisper out, “um… Thug Life T’s…” and try to look a little more hard-core. Which totally works when I’m holding the hand of my 3 year old. Here’s the exact shirt I have: Don’t Believe Me Just Watch.

The Shorts
These are the shorts I sliced and diced a few weeks ago in this post. They are super similar to this Kut from the Kloth pair I saw at Nordstrom Rack a couple weeks ago (if you buy them online, I’d suggest ordering up a size… my regular size fit kind of tight).  I also have last year’s version of Gap’s Sexy Boyfriend shorts which I wear a ton, but they are a little shorter.

The Shoes
Okay, I have to admit it… the second I opened the package containing these sandals I immediately put them on my feet and wore them almost nonstop for a week. They are super comfortable with buttery leather and the happy yellow color makes any outfit look more fun! They are called the Joe’s Ranger Sandals in yellow and I bought mine from DailyLook using a credit I had on their website. However, if you like them and you have small sized feet Amazon has them for much cheaper!

What do you think of my new monthly “My Style” feature? Which is your favorite June look?
