May Thrift Haul: Dressing Room Styling Session

I actually wasn’t planning to post a thrift haul this month, because I didn’t have a chance to thrift and wasn’t anticipating any free time until June! But then last Friday I made a 20 minute stop to a crappy thrift store by me that usually doesn’t have anything good… I found 2 dresses and also 2 pieces that would work with the dresses, so I decided to have an impromptu dressing room styling session.

{Pssst, you can read about my previous thrifting adventures here}

Outfit 1 and 2:

This thrift store had all dresses marked at $7 and sweaters at $6, so the whole outfit on the right cost a total of $13! The dress is just a simple black dress with a flattering gathered waist. The cardigan was from Talbots and a little too big, so I pushed up the sleeves and gave it a little shape with a hand-on-hip pose. I actually kind of love it paired with my fun bright yellow sandals! I ended up buying the black dress because it fits me well and I have a few fun sweaters/blazers that will pair well with it for work.

Outfit 3 and 4:

Here’s another dress and topper combo, this time I went with a faux wrap dress ($7) and zip up jean jacket ($9). This dress is actually a size too big, but you can really only tell in the length. I’m going to chop it a few inches and hem it right above my knees. I think it looks cute as heck with the jean jacket and those fabulous sandals! I liked that this jean jacket had zipper in the front rather than buttons, but I was a bit too busty to zip it up comfortably. I bought this dress for the $7 and will be pairing it with a similar jean jacket that I already own.

So, for a total of $14 I ended up adding two more easy dresses to my wardrobe!

Do you think I made the right choices? What are your thoughts on my quickie dressing room styling session?

April Thrift Haul & Two Thrifting Tips

I had an awful-very-bad-day last week, so I decided that I really, really, really needed a mental health day. Which is how I ended up taking off a random Wednesday with no plan, other than to treat myself gently, eat some yummy food… and do a little thrifting.

Two Thrifting Tips:

Tip #1: If you have a kiddo just starting to read thrift stores are a TREASURE trove of books. I bought Jack 15 books that he can read himself for just 99 cents each. And once he outgrows them, I’ll be donating them back to the thrift store for another kiddo to enjoy. So, don’t forget about the kid’s books!

Tip #2: Look for off-season items! Many people who go to thrift stores are looking for immediate use items, so don’t be afraid to look for warm weather stuff in the middle of the winter and cold weather stuff as the temperatures are rising. This month I found a great sweater and pair of booties. Sure, I can’t wear them right now… but that doesn’t mean I won’t love them in the fall!

Soft Surroundings Tank Top, $2.99

Soft Surroundings is known for their super soft fabrics and kind of ridiculous prices. I scooped up a cardigan from the brand when thrifting a couple months ago and really like it, so when I saw this tank top I threw it in my cart. It’s just an easy tank that I’ll be adding to my pajama drawer and wearing the heck out of this spring and summer. Would I have paid $30 – 50 for it from the Soft Surroundings store? Nope. But for $3 I’ll certainly enjoy it!

Loft Striped Sweater, $6.99

To answer your question, no I don’t have enough striped sweaters! This one is super thin and soft, without being transparent. It also has NO wool in it and is perfectly oversized and slouchy. So expect to see a lot of this one in the fall when the weather cools back down!

Loft Skirt, $19.99

This one was a total thrifting ‘splurge’ at $20, but it still had the tags on it for $59.99 and I really liked it, so I figured I’d pay up a little. This one feels very ‘Anthropologie’ styled to me and I originally thought I’d wear it to work with a nice tops and/or cardigan. But, then I realized how cute it looks with a graphic tee, so it’s possible this one may make some weekend appearances too!

Cobb Hill leather sandals, $5.99

Once again, the power of ignoring size labels in thrifting worked for me. These are marked as a size 7.5, but they fit more like a typical 8.5… which is my size. I love the pretty greenish/blue color of these and I wore them already last week!

Clarks leather and suede studded booties, $7.99

I saw these on the thrift rack and they SCREAMED well-made from a pile of plastic/pleather boots. I LOVE Clarks boots and shoes and these are gorgeous in person. They are a mix of brown leather and suede with the fun studded straps. I found them online and they are called the Swansea Grove suede motorcycle booties and they are currently selling for $150 on Amazon. They fit great and I’m going to pack them away so that when I pull out my fall clothes it’s like I found a new gift for myself!

Consignment Store Haul

I know I usually share my Thrift Store hauls, but I stopped by two consignment stores recently and found some amazing treasures that I can’t wait to share with you!

{Pssst, you can read about my previous thrifting adventures here}

Maeve Embroidered Dress, $25

Technically, this purchase was in March when I stopped by a new consignment shop with my friend Lindsey, but I never had the chance to share it on my blog! Maeve is a brand carried at Anthropologie, and I tend to love their dresses. This one is no exception with the fun mix of eyelet and embroidery.

This will be the perfect dress to throw on for easy summer weekends and I may end up packing it for our upcoming Hawaii trip. Here’s a quick dressing picture of it on (over jeans) to get an idea on the fit:

I find it funny how I look like a little shorty in this photo — it must have something to do with their magical skinny mirror. I’m actually 5’7″ and a size 10/12… so I’m not a tiny tatertot!

Magnolia Leather Hobo Purse, $40

I love Joanna Gaines and have been eyeing the Magnolia leather purses when they come up in my Instagram feed. I saw this one on the rack and immediately was drawn to the super soft leather and fun braided strap. This purse is in perfect condition and doesn’t even look like it was used – in fact, the dust bag was inside! Check out the pretty lining:

I did a little research and this retailed for $295 in 2015, so I’m happy to have scooped it up for $40. I think it will be a perfect spring/summer bag for me.

Eileen Fisher striped sweater, $20

I found this lightweight sweater on the clearance rack of the consignment shop, which is kind of crazy considering that it is PERFECT for spring. Can’t you just imagine it paired with some skinny jeans or even a pair of pink shorts? This is a 3x, but I love how it fits kind of slouchy and oversized. It was originally marked for the consignment price of $40, but I got it on clearance for just $20!

Cingo Nero Lene Leather Jacket, $75

This may be the steal of the month! This Cingo Nero unlined leather jacket is a dark navy color and super lightweight. It just drapes so beautifully and is the perfect topper for basically anything.

I can see pairing this with a dress in place of a regular blazer for a cool work look. It would also look great thrown on with a t-shirt and jeans for kind of an easy badass look. Here is a quick dressing room photo with it over the dress I was wearing:

I found the exact same jacket online and it retails for $380! This one was on the clearance rack and marked down from $150 to just $75! Such a STEAL!
