As most of you know, I’ve been using Stitch Fix for quite a while. And by ‘quite a while’ I mean… 27 times. While I’ve mostly been happy with the service, I’m still open to other options. Especially for some more casual (but not too schlumpy) outfits, since it seems that Stitch Fix is best at providing me with more work-appropriate clothing.
I tried The Ms. Collection but the idea of clothing rental with their idea of ‘styling’ definitely didn’t work for me. DAILY LOOK Elite’s box wasn’t a good fit with my lifestyle or…um, body shape. I’ve thought about trying Wantable’s Style Edit, but after my experience with their Fitness Edit I decided to pass. {2017 edit} I did recently fall in love with Trunk Club, so I’ll be using them on the regular (find my reviews here). Elizabeth & Clarke’s clothing boxes look too boring, Golden Tote doesn’t really seem to be my style and the M.M. LaFleur Box is way out of my price range.
Which brings us to Trendsend.
How they are the same as Stitch Fix:
- You fill out an extensive style profile which includes your sizes, what you like, what you don’t like, etc.
- You can make a pinterest page of things you like for your stylist to review.
- They offer sizes 0 – 14.
- There is a $20 styling fee that goes towards your purchase if you decide to keep something.
Sounds pretty familiar, right?
Here’s how they are different:
- Instead of sending you 5 pieces to try on, the stylist puts together outfits for you to try. The typical box contains 7 – 9 pieces to try, which includes clothing and accessories.
- They have a website (and brick and mortar stores) called Evereve, so before you even commit to a box you can click around to see if the styles and prices are where you are comfortable. If you see something you like, you can buy it instead of just hoping that it will show up in a box, or trying to buy it off a Facebook board.
- There are currently no referral benefits, so people who blog about their Trendsend boxes are really just doing it because they want to share them with you… not because they are trying to make money off your referral fees.
- You have 5 days to decide what you want to buy and you send back the rest.
- There is no ‘buy it all’ discount.
- They make exchanges easy. One of my pet peeves with Stitch Fix is that if you like an item but want a different size, you have to email Customer Service to see if it is available. If you want a different color… you’re out of luck. However, with Trendsend if you want your items in a different size or color you can either leave that feedback for your stylist so that they can send you the item of your choice in your next box, or you can just go to their website an order the size/color you want. So much easier than trying to trade with other people on a Facebook board!
- If you live near one of their Evereve stores, you can return or exchange items (Stitch Fix doesn’t take returns at all). However, keep in mind that the $20 styling fee is disbursed among the items kept, so if you do make a return it will be for slightly less than full price.
I spent some time filling out the survey and created a pinterest board for my stylist to see (you can check it out here). I also sent through a full-body picture, as requested, so that they could see who they were styling. Lastly, I included my Instagram account since I frequently post outfit pictures.
To give you an idea of turnaround, I placed my order (just for one box, so I could try it out) on January 4th and received my box on January 9th. I don’t know if orders always come so quickly, but I was pleasantly surprised at the speedy delivery.
On my Facebook page there some questions asking me to include a comparison of price and also quality of the Trendsend items vs what I usually receive from Stitch Fix. As you can see in my order below, they actually do carry some of the same brands and the pricing seems similar. As for quality of the items, I’d say that the Evereve items seem pretty similar in quality, if not a little bit nicer. The weight of the Hanna Tee and Fringed Cardigan were similar to what I would see in a high-end store. The necklace I was sent looks well-made and not cheap at all, like something I would find at Loft. However, please keep in mind that I am basing my opinion on seeing just 9 items from Trendsend vs seeing 135 items from Stitch Fix over the past couple years.
Okay, now on to the fun part… let’s check out what I received!
Outfit #1: Sanctuary Hanna Tee ($59), Lush Grids Plaid Blazer ($49.99) and Kut from the Kloth Mia Skinny Jeans in Approve ($88)
Stylist note: Here’s an outfit for a casual day at work. I saw you pinned the Sanctuary tee on your Pinterest board and it is a great top for work that you can wear alone or dress up with a cardigan or jacket. I wanted to show you a fun and unique way to layer it by adding the blazer and I gathered from your Instagram page that you love fun prints! I know you are a Kut girl and these are one of our favorite Kut skinnies and a great wash to wear year-round.
My thoughts: First off, it’s pretty cool that she actually took note of what outfits I share in my Instagram account. Kudos to the stylist! I was initially really concerned because she sent me the jeans in a size smaller than I usually wear, but they fit great and the smaller size give me a total ego boost too!
Although the Sanctuary top is called a “tee” it is actually made out of a lightweight sweater material with a band of chiffon at the bottom. It is a little fancier than I expected, and perfect for work or just dressing up a pair of jeans. I’m not really a fan of the blazer, because even though it is a fun draped shape, it is super lightweight like a blouse. The jeans are PERFECT though and I was actually thinking I needed another pair, so great timing! Even though I usually buy the same brand of jeans, I get mine from Nordstrom Rack where they carry (what I’m guessing) is a less-expensive version made specifically for the store. I think this pair is noticeably softer than the ones I usually wear and well worth the price.
Keep or Return: I’m leaning towards keeping both the blue top and jeans. What do you think?
Outfit #2: Allison Joy Josie Tunic Dress ($68) and Lovestitch Fringe Drape Cardy ($88)
Stylist Note: Here is a great date night outfit. Allison Joy is one of our private label brands made exclusively for Evereve. This can be worn as a dress or a tunic, so feel free to pair it with black tights or even your burgundy skinny jeans. I saw in your style profile that you love black sweaters with a little something extra added to them. I really wanted to send this cardigan in black, but we didn’t have it! You may be able to find it online and order another color though. But for now, this gray will go with so much in your closet. You can also wear it closed (it looks like a poncho) or over your new denim shirt (can you tell I looked at your Instagram page!)
My thoughts: Okay, I kind of love the attention to detail going on here. My stylist not only looked at my Instagram page, she suggested two items from my own closet that would mix in with the outfit?! So cool!
I knew before I even put it on that the tunic top wasn’t going to work for me, because I need more of a cinched-in waist. However, I tried it on anyways and while it clings a bit to my belly and butt, it’s not as terrible as I expected it to look on me. The sweater is fabulous though and if she had sent it in black like she intended, I would have fallen in love with it. I especially love how it buttons together for a swoopy crisscross shape. Here it is styled with the jeans from Outfit #1:
Keep or Return: The tunic is not my style, so back it goes. As for the cardigan, I really do like it and it is offered in a few different colors. I’ll keep it in mind for future splurges!
Outfit #3: Tolani Camryn Tunic Dress ($39.99), Lysse Mara Leggings ($78) and Natural Stone Tassel necklace ($28)
Stylist Note: Here’s a fun outfit to wear for a happy hour or dinner date with girlfriends. This tunic is a really cool pattern in colors that I think will look great on you! As for the leggings, prepare yourself for the best leggings of all time! They’re meant to fit like a glove and will relax as you wear them. They’re made of an amazing ponte knit fabric so they will not stretch out or show-through. They also have a higher rise which our moms love because it helps with tummy control and gives a little more support.
My thoughts: I’ve heard of the Lysse leggings, but I’ve never tried them before… so I was super excited to check them out! Even more so because I’ve never actually worn leggings before (besides to run)… could I be a leggings girl? They are pretty great… the fabric is thick and there is a higher rise with a suck-in-your-belly panel that really works. I love the colors in the tunic, but I think I would like it more if it were a shorter blouse. I have the same issue of it fitting great up top, but clinging too much on my hips and butt. It looks cute in the picture, but as soon as I move it starts creeping up. As for the necklace, it is exactly what I would pick out for myself and a really great price!
Keep or Return? As much as I love the colors of the tunic, the length (and cling to my hips) is not doing it for me. The leggings are really great and I highly recommend them if you are someone who regularly wears leggings out of the house. I’m just not sure that I really need them. The necklace is so cute and only $28, so it’s definitely a contender!
Bonus item: Renee C Vallarta Drape Top ($48)
Stylist Note: I couldn’t help but send you one more piece because I think this top would look amazing on you! Wear underneath a cardigan or moto jacket at work, or with the Lovestitch Fringe Cardy to make the pattern pop a little!
My thoughts: Can I adopt my stylist? An EXTRA item to try… heck yeah! I’ve seen these drape tops before but never really thought they would work on my curves, but this one is quite cute!
Keep or Return? This top has a really great drape and it’s in black and white, which is always one of my weaknesses. It can certainly be a great work outfit (or even just a weekend outfit) when paired with a cardigan. What do you think, is it a keeper or should I throw it back to the sea?
Help Me Decide!
Wow, I was really impressed by my Trendsend box and I can’t believe how great my stylist did with her research of my pinterest page and Instagram account! While I’m not really a tunic girl, I appreciate that she sent items in colors/patterns/brands that she knew that I’d like. So now it’s the hard part, I have 5 days to decide what to keep and what to send back. Good thing I have some Christmas money to spend!
I really liked a lot of the items that were sent for me to try, so this is a pretty hard decision. Let’s start by removing everything I know I’m NOT keeping, which leaves us with:
1. Sanctuary Hanna Tee
2. Kut from the Kloth Mia Skinny Jeans
3. Renee C Vallarta Drape Top
4. Lysse Mara leggings
5. Natural Stone Tassel Necklace
My closet and my bank account are not on board to keep them all, so help me narrow it down to the best of the bunch! What do you think I should buy?
1/14/16 Update: I love it when you all leave such great feedback! I decided to buy the black and white drape top, jeans and blue hanna tee. Good thing I had some Christmas money to spend!
Psssst…If you like checking out what other people receive in their clothing subscription boxes, I have a couple quick links for you! Here are all my Stitch Fix Reviews and here are all my Trunk Club Reviews. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored by Trendsend, I pay for the $20 styling fee and any clothing I purchase with my own hard-earned money.
Holy macaroni, your stylist sounds AWESOME. She paid attention to stuff you already had in your closet and has a feel for what you love and what will look good on you? Now you know what it’s like to be me texting you dressing room pics, LOL! I really like the top with the fun print and the draping she included last minute. It’s Joules-tastic. Side note: I’m stoked to see the new tat once it’s colored in.
Thank you! I have my next tattoo session in less than 2 weeks, so once it heals up I’ll show it off. =)
I was SUPER impressed with the time that the stylist took to learn what I liked and that black and white top is awfully tempting!
I vote for items 2,3 and 4!!!
Awesome, thanks! =)
Black and white top, jeans, necklace are all awesome.
Thanks Mariya!
Wow, your stylist really paid attention to detail! I like that she listened, I feel like that had been missing in your last few boxes from other companies.
If I have to rank between the five you’re deciding between:
1. Renee C Vallarta Drape Top. This is my favorite piece from this box. I like the pattern and that you can dress it up or down based on what you want that day. I especially like it with the brightly colored cardigan.
2. Lysse Mara Leggings. It’s a bit outside your box but you liked it = keeper.
3. Sanctuary Hanna Tee. I could see you wearing this all. the. time.
4. Kut from the Kloth Mia Skinny Jeans. Because you can get them anytime, I ranked them lower on the list. Props for your smaller size, by the way. I know you’ve been working on that.
5. Natural Stone Tassel Necklace. I ranked this last because I think you could find similar necklaces other places.
I love your box review posts!
Thanks Jessy for your awesome feedback!
Because I love fringe and I love drape front cardigans, that Lovestitch Fringe Drape Cardy is my ideal cardigan. Outfit #2 is my all time favorite and I am going to pin it in the hopes that they will send at least the cardi in my next box.
Items #3 and #4 are what I would keep from the list you gave.
Thanks Shelley! And if you can’t wait, you can always just order the fringe cardy off their website… they had a few colors to pick from. =)
I do like all the items to be honest! That #3 blouse would be my favorite though! I agree that I think you can find a similar necklace and probably cheaper too.
Thanks Janice! I do think I could find a similar necklace, but this one is priced well and already in my house… 😉
I can’t decide! I like all your final choices.
I NEED that fringe cardigan. At first I was “meh”, but I love it once it is buttoned.
I’m so loving the fringe cardigan buttoned too!
You need to reconsider that fringe cardi. It looks fabulous on you. Even in the lighter color. Branch out a little.
Thanks Gail! I actually don’t mind it in gray, I just already have a gray cardigan (that ironically I’m wearing today) that I hardly ever wear. Two in the same color would be kind of a waste!
I also love the fringe cardigan! It looks great on you too. Voting for reconsideration on that one (and considering ordering one myself!) Also like the drape front top and I think you would get a lot of wear out of it in both summer and winter. These posts are so fun! Keep us posted on how you like the new styling service. I curious to see if it’s as good in the coming months!
Thanks Sandra! I will absolutely post about Trendsend again, this was super fun!
