Did you make a New Year’s resolution to exercise more in 2018? Yeah, me too. I’ve mostly got a handle on this healthy eating thing, but my nutritionist also wants me to work out 4 – 5 times a week to help lower my cholesterol.
You know what makes it easier for me to exercise more often?
Cute clothes!
With that in mind, I decided to order a special fitness and athleisure Trunk from my Trunk Club Stylist, Dana (here’s my referral code if you want her to style you too!). During this time of year, I basically change into sweatpants, hoodies and slippers the second I walk in the door. Also, I’m wearing the whole athleisure look (code for comfy clothes… athletic leisure) on my work-from-home days. And weekends. So I thought it would be great if Dana sent me over some fitness items and also some layering pieces that I can wear all winter long.
Here is what she sent:
(1) Chapala Sneaker by ED Ellen DeGeneres, $97.95 (2) Whisper Cotton V-neck by Madewell, $19.50 (3) Easy Rider Origami Cardigan by Beyond Yoga, $132 (4) Cozychic Lite Pullover by Barefoot Dreams, $89 (5) Cozychic Lite Coastal Cardigan by Barefoot Dreams, $126 (6) Embroidered Sweatpants by Make Model, $49 (7) Reversible V-neck Tee by Halogen, $39 (8) Static High Waist Reversible Leggings by Zella, $89 on sale for $34.97 (sold out) (9) Vice Midi Leggings by Zella, $65 (10) Don’t Sweat it Sweater by Zella, $59 (11) Classics Franchise Jogger Pants by Reebok, $50 (12) 3-Pack Microfiber Tab Performance Socks by Sof Sole, $9.99.
If you’re new to my Trunk Club reveals (you can find them all here), I don’t typically photograph every single one of the items. When the Trunk first arrives, I usually go through it and narrow down my choices to a pile of my favorites. Let’s check them out!
Outfit 1: 2 + 3 + 9
This is like a fancy television character’s version of what I normally wear when I’m home! These leggings are labeled “high compression for gym & training” so they are better for running then lazing around the house. I love the color blocking pattern and the lay-flat seams that don’t itch or rub. The shirt fits fine and is a great basic, but the white is a bit transparent. I’d be open to trying this tee in different colors that don’t show my bra. The cardigan is so incredibly soft and I really wanted to love it so I could just cocoon myself inside it for the rest of the winter. However, it has dolman sleeves and I’m just not a fan of that look.
Since I was really loving the leggings, I checked online for reviews to see how they would hold up. There weren’t many out there, but I did see that these same leggings come in another color combo of black and blue (you can see them here). I immediately used the Trunk Club app to message Dana to see if they had that option in stock and they did. YAY! I’m already registered for a 5k and a 10k in the spring and I can’t wait to wear these for my runs!
Outfit 2: 10 + 8
I told my stylist that she gets bonus points for thumbholes and she totally delivered with this soft and comfy top. I just wish it were a little less fitted around the tummy area. And before you leave a comment that it doesn’t look that bad… know that I am totally sucking it in in this photo. Like so, SO HARD. The cool swoop up on the side is pretty adorable though and shows off the color changes in the leggings.
Unlike the last pair of compression leggings, these are labeled for ‘all day’ wear so they don’t squish me like a sausage casing. I love the cool pattern and the fact that you can also reverse them for a solid grey look. Due to the two layers of fabric, these leggings are a little warmer and perfect for me to wear at home on my work-from-home/weekend days.
Outfit 3: 7 + 5 + 6
The embroidered sweatpants are so soft inside and I like the fun flower detail. However, they are a little scratchy on the inside of the leg where the applique is applied. Since I’m already loving the two pairs of leggings, it makes it easy to pass on these sweatpants. I like the striped tee shirt because it is a nice thin layer and has a bit of stretch. It is also reversible, so you can decide whether to have a crew neck or v-neck on the front of the shirt. The only problem is that it’s a bit too fitted for me in the tummy area (same goes for the sucking the tummy in as hard as I could in the photo…). I will certainly keep this in mind though after a couple months of workouts!
This fluffy cardigan is part of the CozyChic collection from Barefoot Dreams and it is like wearing a super soft, warm cloud. I love the weight and snugglyness of the cardigan and especially love that it also has pockets. After I tried this one on, I did a little trip over to Nordstrom Rack to see if I could find one at a lower price point. While there were some similar options, they were nowhere as soft and snuggly as this one! I think this one might be a perfect splurge item for me…
Trunk Finalists
Okay, so if you’ve been playing along that leaves me with the following favorites from this Trunk:
(5) Cozychic Lite Coastal Cardigan by Barefoot Dreams, $126
(8) Static High Waist Reversible Leggings by Zella, $89 on sale for $34.97
(9) Vice Midi Leggings by Zella (but in the other color), $65
I do have a few credits in my account that will go towards this order, which is super awesome. I’m kind of leaning towards buying ALL of my finalists and then just not getting another Trunk for a while. What do you think I should buy?
If you want to have Dana style a Trunk for you — and you totally should because she’s awesome — I have her linked to my referral code here: https://www.trunkclub.com/invite/QZFJ33 (Please note: if you use my referral link it will cost you nothing extra and it earns me a small amount to go towards items in my next Trunk).

Both of the leggings for sure! I’m on the fence with the cardigan. The price point for me is a little high, so I personally would skip. You can feel the softness though, so that could be a factor I’m not able to weigh in on and if it’s that soft you just might need it!
I really like the cardigan. I think you could get a lot of wear out of it, style and color will go with a lot of different things, dress up/down, multi season, etc. and so in the long run your price per wear is actually low. Another option of course is to gamble and send it back and think about it, then if you still want it wait for it to go on sale and buy it on your own.
